Our Team

Building a legacy of excellence in science competition

Our History

The Bronx High School of Science has a long and proud tradition of excellence in STEM education. Our Science Olympiad team was established in 2012 with just 15 dedicated students and one faculty advisor. What began as a small after-school club quickly grew into one of the school's most successful competitive teams.

Over the years, we've built a reputation for excellence in the New York Science Olympiad circuit, consistently placing among the top teams in regional competitions and advancing to the state level. Our rigorous training program, dedicated coaches, and passionate student members have helped establish Bronx Science as a powerhouse in science competitions.

Today, our team consists of over 50 active members across three competitive teams (A, B, and C), with students specializing in various events ranging from biology and chemistry to physics, earth science, and engineering builds. Our growth reflects our commitment to fostering scientific excellence and teamwork among our student body.

Team History

Regional Dominance

The Bronx Science Olympiad team has established itself as a dominant force in the New York City regional competitions. For the past decade, we have consistently placed multiple teams in the top 5 positions, demonstrating both the depth and breadth of our science program.

Our success stems from our unique approach to team building and preparation. We field three competitive teams—A, B, and C—each composed of 15 students who compete across 23 events. This structure allows us to develop depth in our program and provide competitive opportunities to more students.

In regional competitions, our A team has secured first place for five consecutive years, while our B and C teams regularly outperform most schools' primary teams. This consistent excellence across all three teams demonstrates the exceptional quality of our science education and the dedication of our students.

Regional Trophy

State Competitions & National Aspirations

While we've consistently demonstrated our excellence at the regional level, our sights are set on greater achievements. At the New York State Science Olympiad Competition, we compete against the best teams from across the state, and have shown steady improvement over the years, climbing from 30th place in 2016 to 12th place in 2024.

Our ultimate goal is to represent New York at the National Science Olympiad Tournament. We recognize that reaching this level requires extraordinary dedication, preparation, and performance. Each year, we refine our training methods, strengthen our knowledge base, and enhance our build designs to move closer to this objective.

For the 2025 season, we've implemented specialized training programs, increased our practice time, and brought in expert coaches to help us break into the top 10 at the state level. With continued determination and hard work, we believe our goal of reaching the national competition is within reach in the coming years.
