Theory-based test+lab events requiring mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge

Earth Science Events

Environmental systems events (2 reference sheets allowed during tests)

Classification and Compilation Events

Research, compilation and identification events (unlimited binder events)

Biology Events

Human biology events from DNA to populations

Experimentation and Analysis Events

Critical analysis events requiring AP-level chemistry knowledge (for some events)

Science Olympiad Membership Agreement

By submitting this registration, I agree to the following terms and conditions of membership in the Bronx Science Science Olympiad team:

Academic Honesty and Integrity

  • I will not use artificial intelligence (AI) tools, chatbots, or automated assistance in completing learning modules, practice tests, or any educational materials provided by the team.
  • I will not plagiarize, cheat, or engage in any form of academic dishonesty during practices, competitions, or related activities.
  • I will properly cite all sources and give credit where due in any research or written work.
  • I understand that violations of academic honesty may result in removal from the team and forfeiture of competition opportunities.

Code of Conduct and Anti-Bullying Policy

  • I will treat all team members, coaches, volunteers, and competitors with respect and dignity at all times.
  • I will not engage in bullying, harassment, discrimination, or intimidation of any kind, whether verbal, physical, or digital.
  • I will maintain appropriate language and behavior during all team activities, competitions, and related events.
  • I will report any instances of bullying, harassment, or inappropriate behavior to team leadership immediately.
  • I understand that violations may result in disciplinary action including warnings, suspension, or permanent removal from the team.

Safety and Laboratory Precautions

  • I will follow all safety protocols and guidelines during laboratory work, build sessions, and competitions.
  • I will wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and directed by coaches.
  • I will handle all materials, tools, and equipment responsibly and report any safety concerns immediately.
  • I will not engage in unsafe practices or horseplay during any team activities.
  • I understand that failure to follow safety protocols may result in immediate removal from the activity and potential team consequences.

Commitment and Participation

  • I understand that Science Olympiad requires significant time commitment and dedication throughout the school year.
  • I will attend all required practices, meetings, and competitions unless excused by team leadership.
  • I will communicate absences or conflicts in advance whenever possible.
  • I will actively participate in team fundraising efforts and community service activities as assigned.

Team Representation and Sportsmanship

  • I will represent Bronx Science with pride, integrity, and good sportsmanship at all competitions and team events.
  • I will accept both victories and defeats gracefully and congratulate competitors regardless of outcomes.
  • I will follow all competition rules and guidelines as set forth by Science Olympiad national and regional organizations.
  • I understand that poor sportsmanship or inappropriate behavior may result in disqualification from competitions.

Disciplinary Actions and Consequences

  • I understand that the team leadership reserves the right to impose disciplinary actions for violations of this agreement.
  • Consequences may include but are not limited to: verbal warnings, written warnings, suspension from practices or competitions, removal from specific events, or permanent dismissal from the team.
  • I understand that serious violations may also result in school disciplinary action as per Bronx Science policies.
  • I have the right to appeal disciplinary decisions through the established team grievance process.

Additional Terms

  • I understand that team membership is contingent upon maintaining good academic standing at Bronx Science.
  • I give permission for photographs and videos taken during team activities to be used for promotional purposes.
  • I understand that this agreement remains in effect for the duration of my membership on the team.
  • I acknowledge that team policies and procedures may be updated throughout the year, and I agree to comply with any reasonable changes.
